A strong start for secondary school

During the transition to secondary school, a lot changes, which can feel exciting but also overwhelming. Brugkr8! helps Year 8 pupils make the move to secondary school with greater confidence and resilience. In this training, students learn practical skills to cope with tension, new situations, and uncertainty. This enables them to start their first year of secondary school feeling calmer, more confident, and more resilient. Students are introduced to ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) as preparation for secondary school. Insights from ACT4school (Samsen, 2025) and Working on Wellbeing and Mental Resilience by Gillard et al. (2025) are combined.

De Basisclub also visits schools to offer Year 8 pupils the opportunity to experience ACT individually or in small groups. Based on the principles of psychological flexibility (ACT), students work on: coping with tension and uncertainty, developing helpful thoughts, discovering what matters to them, building confidence in their own abilities, and strengthening resilience in times of change. Brugkr8! enhances wellbeing and strengthens mental resilience, helping students make a more confident and grounded start in secondary school.
