Cogmed memory training

Online training to promote working memory

During the online training program at the Basisclub in Amsterdam you will receive tutoring from a qualified coach (Jessie Mooij, MSc). The aim of the training is to improve working memory and thereby also to optimize attention, learning capacity and work attitude. The training has been proven to be effective https://www.nji.nl/interventies/cogmed-werkgeheugentraining, but is also intense. It demands a lot from both the participant and his/her immediate environment. It only works if the student is motivated and supported by the people around them. Rewards to motivate a participant for his/her efforts are discussed. When a child is participating, it is recommended that an adult assumes the role of a training aid during each training block in order to encourage the student and provide feedback. Since the training completely takes place online, it is also possible to follow the training remotely. Weekly coaching calls are held over the telephone to monitor and motivate progress. On this page it is possible to try out Cogmed: https://training.app.cogmed.com/demo

Possible results of a Cogmed Working Memory training are:

  • Better concentration
  • A more structured work approach
  • An improved capacity to keep an overview
  • Calm your mind faster
  • Improved memory

Types of Cogmed Programs and Protocols

During the intake, it is discussed which Cogmed training program and protocol is most appropriate. The table below shows the duration of the training in the different protocols.

During the (online) introductory meeting, together we assess which program and which protocol fits best.

You can choose from the Cogmed light or standard program. The difference is that the standard program includes numbers and letters and the light program does not.
This makes the light program more suitable for young children (4-7 years). Within these programs you can choose to create or focus. The difference here is that with create each training is concluded with a reward that allows the participant to build a city with the earned points. The focus version is low-stimulus and without reward.

The table on the left shows which different options (‘protocols’) can be followed. For example, if you train 5 times a week, 25 minutes per block, it will take 8 weeks to complete the total training. And if 40 minutes per block is trained 4 times a week, it takes 6 weeks to complete the training. Or if 35 minutes per block is trained 3 times a week, the entire training lasts 10 weeks. Together we assess which option works best.
