ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) is an accessible and effective form of guidance that helps children develop resilience when dealing with difficult thoughts and emotions. Many primary school students face challenges such as performance anxiety, insecurity, pressure to achieve, or stress related to the transition to secondary school. ACT offers tools to deal with these feelings — not by pushing them away, but by learning to live with them.
Children learn that it’s okay to feel nervous, afraid, or unsure — and that they can still take action toward what truly matters to them. They practice being present in the moment (mindfulness), letting go of unhelpful thoughts (“I’m not good at this”), and discovering their own values and strengths.
This approach helps build self-confidence, intrinsic motivation, and reduces the fear of making mistakes. ACT empowers children to take steps forward, even when things feel challenging — a crucial life skill, both now and in the future, for example when transitioning to secondary school or navigating new social situations.
In short, ACT coaching helps children feel more grounded, with a calmer mind and the space to grow.
